Diabetic Diet: Most Important Causes Of High Blood Sugar Levels
The main concern for many diabetics is managing their diabetic diet so they can avoid getting a high blood sugar levels. It is often a balancing act because they have to watch everything they do on a daily basis. If one thing is off, this can lead to high blood sugar levels which can be very harmful. In order to avoid this, it is a good idea to understand what causes a higher than normal blood sugar level.

You also need to eat smaller meals, usually 5 meals a day, instead of 3 big meals as your body can regulate the sugar much easier in smaller meals. You also need to make sure your 5 daily meals are a small portion.
A further cause is not getting enough exercise. Exercise not only helps gets your body in shape and helps you lose weight, it also helps your body burns off that extra sugar that is left over in your blood stream. When you exercise, your body first looks to the sugar in your blood stream to burn off the extra energy it needs. This is why exercise is an important part of your diabetic diet.
An additional cause of getting a high blood sugar levels is when you have an illness or become stressed. When you get sick or become very stressed, your body produces a hormone that causes your blood sugar level to spike. Drinking a lot of water and relaxing will help alleviate this.
One more cause is by taking other medications with your diabetic medication. Other medications potentially create a conflict which will cancel out the effect that your diabetic medication has on your blood sugar levels. You should consult your doctor to make sure that none of your other medications will conflict with your diabetic medication.
Maintaining a normal level of blood sugar on a diabetic diet is the most important thing you can do for your health. If your blood sugar spikes once, it is not a cause for alarm as this happens from time to time. If your blood sugar spikes consistently, then there is usually a problem. If this happens, just consult your doctor so he or she can help you get your blood sugar levels back under control.
When managing your diabetic diet, you need to be aware of what causes high blood sugar levels so you can avoid them on a daily basis. You need to take your medications regularly, follow a good diabetic meal plan, get enough exercise, avoid getting sick or stressed, and make sure no other medications conflict with your diabetic medications. By watching all these things, you will be able to maintain a normal level of blood sugar on a daily basis.
